I believe in unicorns By Michael Morpurgo

This book is set in a small town in the mountains. It is about the first time the narrator see's a unicorn. Tomas Porec (the narrator) is only eight and his mother tells him to go to the library to listen to the librarian tell stories. While the children are listening the librarian sits on a carved wooden unicorn. Soon after that the 2nd World War starts and after a while comes to Tomas's village everyone has to go and hide in he forest while others go on rescue missions. Eventually the soldiers leave the village everyone comes out of hiding but in leaving the village the soldiers burn the local library - they try and destroy the last vestige of hope by burning the books. The whole village turns out to help to save the books and in the process the last unicorn.

What I think of the book:

I think this book was amazing it shows how important books are to people and when despair is everywhere books can offer a last glimpse of hope.
I would recommend this book to people who have children that like a night time story.
