Mr Skip By Michael Morpurgo

This is the story about Jackie and her Mum who live in a small estate some where in Dublin, Ireland, where they all have horses and like to race them. Jackie doesn't have one, she would love a horse and a stable for all the other horses but can't afford it. Until one day Jackie finds an old garden gnome in a skip. She decides to paint it, fix it up and call it Mr Skip for her Mom's birthday, that's when things start to change.
Jackie realizes that everything is possible when Mr Skip is around. One day her grandmothers donkey comes to stay because Jackie's grandmother has become sick. There is a big race in the estate and Jackie enters her donkey. At the start of the race she says to the donkey "Do it for Mr Skip" and the donkey jumps up and runs like the wind. Jackie's fortune is about to change.

What I thought of the book

A sweet book, magical book showing you that anything is possible if you only dare to believe.
My mother read this story to us at bed time over the space of a couple of weeks and I must admit we were all captivated. Our ages 6, 12 and 14.
